Abstract

608,607. Draw gear for railway vehicles. BRENNAN, T. F. Aug. 22, 1945, No. 21442. Convention date, Sept. 18, 1944. [Class 103 (v)] A friction buffer comprises three triangular friction shoes 41 loaded by a compression spring 45 and wedged between the spring cap 44 and a non-rotary block 46, the abutting surfaces 42, 43 thereof being plane, and the outer faces of the shoes bearing against the inner surface of the buffer-head sleeve 34 which is of hexagonal cross-section, to prevent rotation of the buffer head. The wedge block 46 is formed with a hexagonal projection 49 which engages a correspondingly shaped opening in the base of the outer casing 24. The casing 24 and sleeve 34 are provided with lugs 36, 39, respectively, forming a bayonet joint for the assembly of the members. Steps 60, Fig. 1, are provided on the buffer casings, either, integral therewith or welded thereto. The draw gear consists of draw bars 15 passing through U-shaped brackets 17 attached to the ends of the cars and carrying compression springs 21, the coupler hooks 16 being connected by a member 51 with right and left hand screw members by means of which the cars can be drawn together to bring the buffer beads into contact and thus place the springs 45 under initial compression.
