Abstract

608,276. Mixing-machines. WEBB, W. P. Feb. 19, 1946, No. 5161. [Class 86] In a concrete &c. mixer sand and aggregate are placed in compartments arranged in line end to end, and fed by a helical conveyor extending through both compartments, the lengths of the compartments and the pitch of the parts of the conveyor each being such as will deliver a mixture of known proportions, the latter being variable by adjustable plates slidable upon the end walls of the compartments. The materials are fed to a stationary mixing trough. Sand and aggregate are fed to a stationary mixing trough 20, Fig. 1, by a helical conveyer mounted on a shaft 24 having a part 44 in the aggregate compartment 14 of smaller pitch than a part 45 in the sand compartment 15, the lengths of the compartments and the pitch of the parts being such that a mixture of known proportions will be delivered. These proportions are variable by adjustable plates 66, 67. Cement is supplied from a compartment 51 by a helical conveyor 64 connected through dogs 84, 85 to a shaft 25 driven by a belt and pulley drive from the shaft 24. The compartment 51 is mounted for adjustment parallel to the length of the mixing chamber, a connecting shaft being interposed if necessary between the dogs 84, 85. Water is fed through a perforated tube 61 extending across the width of the chamber 20 and supplied from a tank 80 through a manually adjustable valve provided with a scale indicating the volume of flow, and through a cut-off valve 83. Fig. 4. The latter is operable by linked levers 58, 59, 60 connecting with the rotary operating rod 70 of a clutch 28 through which the shaft 24 is driven from a motor 26, so that the water supply is cut off when the drive to the conveyors is interrupted. Helical mixing paddles 46 are mounted on the shaft 24 within the chamber 20, and additional paddles 48 having blades of V section may be bolted to the shaft between the paddles 46. The conveyor 64 and the shaft 24 are both removable bodily from the forward end of the machine. A wire mesh screen 69 protects the exposed portion of the mixing trough 20.
