[Class 29] The evaporator is partially covered by insulating material 7 the uncovered portions having readily detachable members 12 of high thermal conductivity in close contact therewith, these members constituting the only exposed parts of the evaporator on which, frost will collect. As shown in Fig. 2, the evaporator comprises an S-shaped member 7 of a material of low thermal conductivity, e.g. mouldable plastic, in which are embedded refrigerant tubes 8 of half-round section with the flat surfaces exposed at the upper surfaces of the three horizontal portions 9, 10, 11. These exposed surfaces form seats for ice trays 12 which thus form the cooling means for the cabinet and can be removed when frosted. Brackets 13 space the evaporator from the rear wall of the cabinet to allow circulation of air around the ice trays. A partition may be supported by brackets 15. The metal grids in the ice trays have upstanding portions 16 for heat transfer. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the evaporator comprises metal plates 17, 18 with passages between them for the circulating refrigerant, the plates being covered with insulating material 19 except at parts 20 which form seatings for the ice trays. The plates are mounted in inclined tiers to promote air circulation.
