Abstract

607,527. Safety devices for aircraft. MARTIN, J., and MARTIN-BAKER AIRCRAFT CO., Ltd. June 7, 1946, No. 3863. [Class 4] A seat for safely launching a pilot or other occupant from an aeroplane in flight is provided with means for locating the limbs of the occupant in the correct position for safety during launching and which are automatically brought into operation by the act of releasing or actuating the mechanism for ejecting the seat and occupant from the aeroplane. In Fig. 1, which shows the invention as applied to the construction shown in Specification 583,257, the dotted line, Fig. 3, shows the limbs in the correct position, the arms being automatically placed in position when drawing down the face-blind 7 and the legs 12 and feet 11, which latter are placed during the normal extended, position in stirrups 15, are automatically drawn into safety position by cables 18 attached to the stirrups and acted upon by stressed springs automatically released from a retaining lever 23 by means of a cable attached to the blind, the pulling down of which also causes the release or actuation of the mechanism for ejecting the seat.
