Abstract

607,181. Electric incandescent lamps. SINGER, G. C. Jan. 29, 1946, No. 2817. [Class 39(ii)] An electric incandescent lamp of the type providec with internal reflectors is adapted to produce a soft non- dazzling beam foi road illumination by mounting the filament or filaments around a reflector 25 which is located axially within a bulb 10 provided with a reflective surface coating 37 so tha light reflected later ally from the reflector 25 is reflected forwardly from the bulb, and a reflector 33 which may have a reflecting coating 34 on either or both surfaces is supported in spaced relation'over the outer end of refiector 25 in a plane transverse to the axis of the bulb. The lamp is provided with two filaments 22 and 23, Fig. 3 (not shown), located on opposite sides of the reflector 25 and supported on wires 16-19 which are connected to three flat prongs 20 adapted to fit into a socket or holder, one prong being bifurcated at 20a to provide a common connection to an end of each filament. The reflector 25 is formed integrally with a glass plug 13 which fits within a cylindrical neck 11 on the bulb and is either cemented or fused therein, an annular rim 14 being provided on the plug to engage the extremity of the neck. The inner surface of the glass reflector 25 is coated with reflecting material 26, and the flat surface of the plug 13 within the base of the reflector is similarly coated. A reflecting coating 39 is also provided around an annular portion of either the inside or outside surface of the top 38 of the bulb. An axial passage 35 in the plug 13 provides an exhausting- aperture which may be sealed either by fusing or bv the insertion of a suitable cement. The reflectors may be made of coloured glass.
