605,757. Elastic threads and fabrics. SILVAIN, A. Jan. 4, 1946, No. 339. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1943. [Classes 120(iii) and 142(iv)] In making a textile covered elastic thread, the outermost covering is enveloped with a substance of rubber-like properties and left unvulcanized. The core threads may comprise natural or artificial rubber latex, and the covering threads any natural or artificial textile, the covered threads being produced by whipping, braiding or twisting. In one form of the invention applied to a core receiving two textile coverings by the whipping method, the elastic core A under tension receives a layer of a substance with rubber-like properties in passing through a tank C<SP>1</SP>, then a first textile covering in passing across a loom B', followed by another layer and covering in tank C<SP>2</SP> and loom B<SP>2</SP>, the double-covered core being finally coated with the substance of rubberlike properties in passing through a tank C<SP>3</SP>. The finished thread may be used in the manufacture of woven, knitted or braided fabrics, with or without other textile threads which may themselves be impregnated with the substance of rubberlike properties, the completed fabric being finished by vulcanizing to bind the threads together.
