Abstract
604,407. Wind musical instruments. SOMMARUGA, H. Dec. 14, 1945, No. 33958. [Class 88 (ii)] The body of a saxophone comprises a moulding or casting having one or more emplacements in which the tone holes are located. Suitable materials are plastics, light metal alloys or zinc alloy. The straight part of the body 14, Fig. 1, is moulded with all emplacement 12 having tone holes 13 and is provided also with lugs 25 intended to carry the spindles of the key mechanism, which may be made as a complete detachable unit as described in Specification 604,418. Other lugs or recesses may be incorporated to locate other fittings. The bell may be made of two mouldings joined together down the centre line of the instrument and attached to the straight part by lapped joints cemented or soldered. Locating recesses only may be provided for drilling the tone holes or the tone holes themselves may be formed under size and subsequently finished accurately. Preferably, each hole has a concentric recess around it so as to give a narrow annular seating for the valve pad.
