Abstract

603,592. Detecting and indicating faults. ASIA ELECTRIC, Ltd., and YOUNG, D. S. Sept. 18, 1945, No. 24082. [Class 37] [Also in Group XXXVII] The sheaths 4 of single-core cables 1 ... 3 of a feeding system having its neutral earthed through a currentlimiting resistance, are bonded together at regular intervals 9, 10 to provide a low-resistance path for fault current, the continuity of the sheathing in each section being interrupted at 5 to prevent the sheathing from acting as a return path for other fault currents. On a fault in the cable-insulation, the earth - fault current energizes a current transformer 13 in the sheathto-earth connection 11 at A, thereby opening contacts 29 and de-energizing relay 31 to close contacts 32 in the circuit of an alarm 21 indicating device which is either situated locally or at a remote control station.
