[Class 52(ii)] A bed device forming, with an ordinary bed as a support, an invalid's bed comprises a bed-pan provided with a removable drawer to receive excrement, which, opening at the side, permits emptying without interference with the patient, in combination with a back rest and a leg rest which are adjustable as desired. The device comprises a flanged tray 2, a body part 1 and a curved top plate 3 having an aperture 4, 4a. A drawer 5, withdrawable from either side, is adapted to receive excrement and, to support the patient when necessary, a pneumatic cushion 15 is adapted to be positioned in the part 4a of the aperture. The cushion 15 is carried by a sill 12 supported on sliding bolts 10 and passes transversely across the device 1 handles 13 being provided whereby the patient may move the cushion into and out of position. Pipes 16, 17 are provided for inflating and deflating the cushion 15. Below the top plate 3 is fixed a water pipe 21 having nozzles 22 for cleansing purposes, pipes 23 being provided for supply of cold and hot water, additional pipes or tubes 28 controllable by turn cocks 27 are provided if desired. A back rest 36 is provided comprising arms 36a pivoted to sleeves 39 slidable into lugs 38 carried by the device 1 and adapted to receive a back frame 40 having a strut 41a to support the back rest, movement of the frame into and out of the lugs 38 determining the adjustment of the back rest. A leg rest comprises an element 37 for each leg carried by adjustable T-pieces 44, 47 from the frame 43. The leg rest is provided with adjustable foot rests 48. Urinal and cleansing devices for use by the patient himself are described.
