Abstract
602,922. Fishing-reels. FRENY, R. Dec. 27, 1945, Nos. 34981 and 34982. Convention dates, Jan. 10, and April 20. [Class 48] A stationary spool reel has a device comprising balls or rollers and a cain which precludes rotation of the flyer-drum in the direction of unwinding. The balls 62, Figs. 3 and 4, are housed between a ring 64 on the reel body and the cam 90 on the flyer-drum. A ring 65, Figs. 3 and 5, having restricted angular movement with respect to the drum has flanges 68 engaging the balls. The angular position of the ring is controlled by a lever 81 pivoted at 83 and connected by a spring-loaded sliding rod 27 to a plate 24 carrying a line guide 23. In the position of the mechanism shown in Fig. 5 the line guide and the balls are inoperative, the balls being pressed against shoulders 60 by the flanges. Rotation of the drum in the winding direction causes a pin 25 on the plate to engage with a spring 85 on the reel body thus setting the line guide and releasing the balls, In a modification the spring may be replaced by a projection on the reel body. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a fishing reel in which the flyer drum 4, Fig. 1 (Cancelled) may be prevented from rotation in the direction of unwinding by a pawl 19 co-operating with the toothed wheel 20 and controlled by a lever 16. The spool 3 is frictionally coupled to a non- rotary shaft 7 and means are provided to give audible warning of the spool rotation. The flyer drum is balanced by weighting a boss 21. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
