Abstract

6 0 2,6 7 0. Furnace roofs. RYBERG, J. P. M. Nov. 8, 1945, No. 29803. Convention date, July 23, 1943. [Class 51(ii)] Refractory arches, particularly silica arches for melting furnaces, are heat treated by placing them in an intermediate position in a furnace and applying heat to both sides simultaneously. The silica arch 1, assembled in a frame 3, is placed over a base 4 having flues 9, and covered by a further arch 5, having openings 6 for the introduction of hot gases or burners, the hot gases passing out through suitable openings 2 in the arch 1 into the flues 9. Electrical units may be used for heating and the upper arch 5 may be used as an insulator for the arch 1 when the latter is in its working position.
