Abstract

602,587. Ammunition boxes. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., and DIAPER, C. T. Sept. 27, 1944, No. 18504. [Class 9 (i)] Relates to boxes for storing machine-gun ammunition belts by folding them in layers and provides shelves 16 on an inner wall of the box, extending generally in the length thereof, which each support the projectiles only of one or more layers. As the belt is withdrawn, the shelves 16 are successively folded back against wall 12 by the upward movement of the layers beneath them. The hinges 17 of the shelves are contained in recesses 18 of the wall 12, which therefore presents a smooth surface when the shelves are folded back. The shelves are prevented from falling back into their projecting position by their frictional engagement at the hinges 17, and from moving downward beyond their projecting position by stops. Shelves may also be hinged on the wall 11 to support the bases of the ammunition rounds.
