Abstract

A carbon or graphite block for use in making current collectors in dynamo electric machines is impregnated with at least one non-hygroscopic or non-deliquescent metallic halide salt such as lead or cadmium iodide, bromide chloride, or fluoride, calcium or magnesium fluoride, mercury iodide or bromide, copper bromide. The carbon block may be immersed either in the salt solution and heated to drive-off the solvent or in the molten salt, or the metallic halides may be moulded with the carbonaceous material. The block may be impregnated by .7 to 50 per cent by weight of the salt or salts. Specification 601,377 is referred to.
