Abstract

599,304. Assembling force fits; jointing. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGERFABRIKEN. Dec. 24, 1943, No. 8559/46. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1942. Divided out of 599,251. [Class 83 (iv)] Force and shrinkage fits are assembled or separated by forcing fluid from a narrow channel, between the joint surfaces under pressure sufficient to relieve metallic contact during relative displacement of the members. A sleeve 5, Fig. 1, for coupling shafts 1, 2 is first shrunk on the end of the shaft 1 in the position shown by dotted lines. The turned-down ends 3 of the shafts have a thin sealing ring 4 applied to prevent pressure fluid, such as oil, from penetrating between the shaft ends. A screwed connection is made at 8 of a source of pressure oi[ that is conveyed by a duct 6 to a channel 7 and the pressure is such as substantially to relieve metallic contact between the parts permitting the sleeve to be moved easily into the required position. As applied to a built-up crank-shaft, the pin 12, Fig. 2, has a taper surface somewhat shorter than the hole in the crank and an axial duct 6 in the pin leads to a central groove 7. The bore for the crank-shaft has an inclined groove 15 near one end forming a sealing lip 16. The whole assembly in this case is effected with the aid of the pressure oil. The inner race of a roller bearing may be similarly mounted on the tapered end of a shaft.
