Abstract
599,205. Vehicle wheels. CRAWLEY, C. H. June 22, 1945, No. 15924. [Class 144 (i)] Detachable wheels.-The inner end of the detachable hub 3 formed with a slotted flange 3a for driving-engagement with a slotted flange la on the permanent hub 1. An intermediate (non-removahle) sleeve 2, having a slotted flange 2a for co-operation with radial lugs 3b on the detachable hub, is screwed on to the permanent hub by means of right-hand threads 2c, 1c so that according to the position of the sleeve the lugs 3b may clear the flange 2a for assembly or removal of the wheel, or be prevented from axial displacement to prevent withdrawal of the wheel. The sleeve 2 is locked in adjusted position by means of a screw-plug 4 engaging a left-hand internal thread 4a in the outer end of the permanent hub to force the coned head 4e of the plug against a coned flange 2e at the outer end of the sleeve. A stud 1b, projecting from the back-flange of the permanent hub, is arranged to form a stop for the lugs on the sleeve 2 to ensure the proper adjustment of the latter for selective co-operation with the lugs 3b on the detachable hub.
