Abstract

598,428. Dust filters. HUTCHINGS, H. R. Sept. 3, 1945, No. 22647. [Class 8 (ii)] In a dust collector of the type comprising filter bags arranged singly or in groups in separate compartments each provided with two valves for causing the flow of dust-laden air temporarily to give place compartment by compartment to a counterflow of scavenging air, and means whereby the bags are agitated during the scavenging, the valves are controlled and the agitation effected by cam members on an endless driven chain. The collector comprises a casing 1, Fig. 5, divided by partitions 3 into a plurality of compartments themselves further divided into lower inter-connected filter bag sections 5 through which dust-laden air is sucked and dust shaken from the outsides of the bags 16 is withdrawn by a screw conveyer, and isolated upper sections 4 provided with valves 11, 11a, Fig. 1, one of which is always open while the other is shut. When valve 11a is open dust-free air enters a suction header 12, and when valve 11 is open scavenging air enters compartment 4, passes through the mouths of the bags 16 removing dust from the exterior thereof and finds its way into an adjacent compartment 5, through filter bags 16 therein, and out through an open valve 11a into the header 12. The valves 11, 11a are of the centrally pivoted clack type operated by pull-push rods actuated by an oscillatable lever 41a, Fig. 6, the pivot 42 of which is borne by a bracket 43 and is integral with a radius rod 44 connected by a rod 46 to a similar radius rod 45 pivoted at 47. The pivots 42, 47 are rigid with arms 48 terminating in cam followers 49, 50 in the paths of cam tracks 35-35a and 36-36a respectively, attached to the outsides of plates 38 fixed to the sides of an endless driven chain 30. This chain also carries runs of cam teeth 34, so located in relation to the tracks 35, 36 and 35a, 36a that they depress followers 51 at the upper end of inclined pivoted levers 52 to agitate the bags 16 through rods 54. and cords 57 during the interval between the valve 11 being opened and. the valve 11a simultaneously closed by tracks 35, 36 respectively and the valves reversed by trailing cams 35a, 36a. The valves may be locked in position by means of a toothed segment 61 fixed to the rod 44 and a pivoted lockpin 62 lifted just before and dropped just after the valves are operated by a pin 67 eng a g ing a cam surface of a dog carried by the pivot 65.
