Abstract
598,025. Rug-making apparatus. BLACKHAM. A. A. Aug. 29, 1945, No. 22205. [Class 142 (iv)] Apparatus for making hand-made wool rugs with the use of a rug-making tool, comprises a substantially rigid frame 1 which is placed over the backing material 13 of the rug, the latter being formed in sections and during the formation of each section being temporarily attached to the frame which comprises rigid boundary members and a series of wires 10 or the like extending transversely to the rows of knots which are formed in each rug section and secured at the ends to boundary members 7, 9, a wire 14 or the like being temporarily attached to the frame, or simply laid thereacross, and having, the last row of knots of a rug section formed around it 'so that by pulling the portion of the rug section in advance of the last row at least partially out of the frame, the last row is moved along the wires 10 to a new position which forms the starting position for the formation of the next rug section. The wire 14 is withdrawn after the completion of the next rug section. The backing material 13 may be either a net or hessian or a like canvastype material. In a modification, the frame is secured to an under carrier frame. In a further modification, the frame is provided with a stand. Specifications 470,642, 585,949, and 585,950 are referred to.
