Abstract

597,691. Automatic guns. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and TREVASKIS, H. W. Oct. 14, 1944, No. 19871. [Class 92 (ii)] The sear 8 of an automatic gun of the Hispano type is operated by a straight triggerlever 12 pivoted at one end and bearing directly on the sear at the other end, the intermediate portion being connected to the core 11 of a solenoid movable at right angles to the trigger-lever. As shown, a readily-detachable solenoid firing-device of flat compact form is attached to the gun casing in the vicinity of the pivoted sear 8. The solenoid comprises circular top and bottom plates 9a, 9b enclosing the winding 10 and moving core 11. The trigger-lever 12 is mounted to rock on a pivot on a fixed part 13a and is pivoted at 13 to the core 11, the free end bearing on the extension 8a of the sear. The electric leads from the remote firing position enter by a plug inserted in a two-pin socket 22, a catch 23a preventing withdrawal. On pressing the firing button, the core is attracted and the sear is released, a pin 20 operating a switch-plate 17a to introduce a resistance into the firing circuit to reduce the current consumed whilst the gun is firing. The resistance is normally short-circuited by the switch-plate to give the full current for firing. The solenoid unit is attached to the base plate 7 and shoulder 31 on the gun by a wedge member 30 operated by a screwed spring-pressed sleeve 24.
