Abstract
597,433. Optical gauging-apparatus. SOC. GENEVOISE D'INSTRUMENTS DE PHYSIQUE. Aug. 17, 1945, No. 21083. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1944. [Class 106 (ii)] Optical gauging-apparatus, particularly for measuring the diameter of internally threaded articles, comprises a feeler 3 carried by a lever 4 supported pivotally by a carriage 7 enclosed and movable within a tube 15. The carriage is supported by a flexible tape 7a passing over rollers 21 and acted on by a spring 22, whereby when the feeler is brought up against a thread, the carriage can adjust its height automatically to enable the feeler to reach the base of the thread. An image of a reticule 17 is projected via a prism 19 on to a mirror 9 carried by the lever 4 and so is reflected on to a screen 18 observed through an eyepiece 23, whereby the support 24 can be adjusted by a micrometer screw 26 until the lever 4 is vertical and the feeler 3 is engaging the base of the thread. The difference of the readings on the micrometer 26, when opposite ends of the feeler 3 are made to engage opposite sides of the screwthread, and the known length of the feeler 3 gives the internal diameter.
