Abstract
597,256. Metallization of wood. CALLENDER - SUCHY DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., and SUCHY, K. T. July 11, 1945, No. 1945, No. 17702. [Class 41] In a process for the metallization of wood by electrodeposition, the wood is first dried, then impregnated with silver, and the silverimpregnated wood is again dried and its surface treated by brushing to render it substantially non-conductive, and it is then coated with metal such as copper by electrodeposition. The silver-impregnation and metal electrodeposition are performed according to the procedure described in Specification 572,071. Each drying process is carried out in two or more stages at temperatures above normal room temperatures, the temperature in the second or subsequent stages being higher than that in the first stage. In the initial drying, the temperature in the first stage is in the region of 40 C. Corresponding figures for the drying after the silver-impregnation are 80 C. and 100 C. A second metal coating, which may be of noble metal, may be electrodeposited after further drying and scratch-brushing of the primary layer.
