Abstract
Vitamin B2 is obtained by inoculating a sterile liquid culture medium with a culture of Eremothecium Ashbyii, incubating the inoculated medium with thorough agitation of the medium, e.g. by mechanical means or by bubbling a gas such as air through the culture medium, and thereafter separating from the culture medium the vitamin thus produced. If desired super-atmospheric pressures may be employed. In examples: (1) a medium of glucose, peptone, yeast and water after inoculation is agitated with a current of air to produce lactoflavine; (2) a medium of glucose, nitritive salts, peptone, meat extract and water is treated as in (1) using mechanical agitation; (3) as in (2) but using both aeration and mechanical agitation.
