Abstract

593,497. Heating air. NEWLIN, H. J. March 21, 1945, No. 7112. [Class 64 (iii)] [Also in Group XI] In an air heating system comprising a hot air passage or shaft 29 in the bottom of which a stove is located and through which the flue 21 from the stove passes so that air is warmed by the stove and flue and discharges into a room or rooms through openings 31 in the shaft, the stove comprises a water boiler 1 from which the water circulates through a radiator or radiators 20 with flow and return header tanks 20a, 20b, arranged in the passage or shaft 29. Air is supplied to the shaft 29 through a duct provided under the floor and containing a fan arranged in a central pipe which is supported by thin fins. When the fan is in operation, the annular space around the pipe is closed by dampers. Ducts 31a may lead the heated air to remote parts of the rooms. The shaft is subdivided by partitions 30 at each upper floor level, and openings are provided in the shaft walls between the partitions to circulate and warm air in each room. Dampers 28 may be provided to prevent circulation of warm air when the boiler is used in hot weather. The boiler firebox may have an opening arranged in association with top and side reflectors 37, 39 to provide an open fireplace, the opening being closable by a sliding door 4 connected to counterweights 7.
