Abstract

An adhesive composition comprises a copolymer of butadiene with styrene having an initial shearing viscosity within the range 65-140 as measured at 100 DEG C. on a Mooney plastometer, and a tackifying agent such as hydrogenated rosin or an ester thereof, dehydrogenated rosin or a hydrogenated coumarone indene resin. Plasticising agents such as dihydromethylabietate, diethylene glycol diabietate and the unsaturated petroleum hydrocarbons made according to Specification 495,323; antioxidants such as diphenylamine, an alkylated polyhydroxyphenol or phenyl b -naphthylamine; solvents such as n-heptane and toluene; and pigments and dyes may also be added. Specification 554,019, [Group VIII], also is referred to.ALSO:An adhesive composition suitable for use in the preparation of pressure sensitive sheets and tapes comprises a copolymer of butadiene with styrene having an initial shearing viscosity within the range 65 to 140 as measured at 100 DEG C. on a Mooney plastometer and a tackifying agent such as hydrogenated rosin or an ester thereof, dehydrogenated resin or a hydrogenated coumarone-indene resin. The copolymer is preferably used in the proportion of 1 to 4 parts to each part of tackifier. Plasticising agents such as dihydromethylabietate, diethylene glycol diabietate and the unsaturated petroleum hydrocarbons made according to Specification 495,323, [Group IV]; antioxidants such as diphenylamine, an alkylated polyhydroxyphenol or phenyl b -naphthylamine; and pigments and dyes may also be added. The composition is applied either by calendar coating or in solution in a solvent such as n.heptane or toluene. Specification 554,019, [Group VIII], also is referred to.
