Abstract
592,715. Sausage machines. TILSTON, H. G., and CLARK, H. E. April 12, 1945, No. 9121. [Class 28 (ii)] A machine for shirring hog casings on a former comprises a nozzle 22 which receives the casing former 29, and is mounted so that the former 29 may be swung between rotating rollers 11 which feed the casings on to the former. Liquid is supplied through the former by the nozzle. The machine is provided with a frame 1 which supports a tank 14 and an electric motor 3 and gearing pulley 5 for driving the rollers. The frame 1 is supported on a base 2 furnished with sludge-tanks 31, 33. The nozzles 22 are rotatably mounted in conical bores 19, 20 which serve as taps to allow the flow of liquid from the tank 14 through a pipe 17 when the formers are swung between the rollers. The temperature of the liquid in the tank is thermostatically controlled. To prevent tearing the casings, the rollers which are mounted on sleeves 12 keyed to shafts 6, 8 have preferably resilient surfaces. According to the Provisional Specification, the rotation of the nozzles 22 may control the operation of the rollers.
