[Class 126] [Also in Group XXX] Stoking apparatus comprises hopper 1 containing fuel crushing means such as movable toothed plate 37, Fig. 11, and feeding means, e.g. pusher 8, operated by hand lever (or pedal) 17 for feeding fuel to a firegrate. In Figs. 1 and 4, handle 17 moving in bearings 10 rotates parallel arms 13b and through connecting bar 15 oscillates pusher 8 in casing 2. In the latter is opening 2a, through which coal enters from hopper 1. Pins 30 on pusher 8 move in slotted arms 27a of slide plate 27, Fig. 8, so that at each end of its stroke the pusher displaces slide plate 27. Levers 29 pivoted at 32 are connected by links 25 to bellcrank levers 26 pivoted at 28 and connected by link 24 to fence 22. Displacement of plate 27 by pins 30 causes fence 22 to be lowered against springs 23 through movement of lever 29. The fence drops on to the pusher as the latter nears the end of its movement to the right, drops through holes 2c to close the end of the casing 2 as the pusher begins to move to the left and, as the pusher moves over to the extreme left and after coal has dropped from hopper 1, is raised by the springs so that the pusher is ready for another stroke. In hopper 1, Fig. 11, is fixed toothed plate 36 and movable toothed plate 37, the latter pivotally connected at 41 to levers 38 fulcrumed at 39 which, Fig. 4, by means of levers 45, are oscillated by movements of the handle to crush coal before it drops in front of the pusher. The coal, Fig. 1, passes through conduit 3 into the firepot 4 from underneath. Draught inducing screen 46, made in two parts 46a, 46b, Fig. 12, may be operated by handle 49 which actuates lever 48 having roller 50 moving in horizontal slot 51. Handle 17 may be spring-operated in one direction.
