[Class 124] A percussive hammer or like tool comprises an even number of rotors 1<1>, 1<11>, half of which rotate in the opposite direction to the other half, and one or more masses 3<1>, 3<11>, 4<1>, 4<11>, 5<1>, 5<11>, 6<1>, 6<11> mounted for rotation with and movement relative to each rotor so that each mass is actuated simultaneously by centrifugal force and by kinetic energy converted from potential energy stored during the rotation to impart a blow to a tool head or anvil 11. The masses may be mounted for radial movement in open mouthed pockets in the rotors and forced by springs 7<1>, 7<11>, 8<1>, 8<11>, 9<1>, 9<11>, 10<1>, 10<11> into engagement with fixed cams 2<1>, 2<11>. The anvil may be cooled by means of a fan 15 and air duct 16, the rotors may be formed with lightening holes and with seating collars for the springs, and each mass may be provided with a semispherical hardened steel tip 38, Fig. 5.
