Abstract

An apparatus for coating a plurality of small objects carried on a holder with a coating composition contained in a tank is characterized in that the holder is supported stationary above the tank which contains a plate with several depressions for retaining a predetermined quantity of the coating composition, and an arrangement to periodically elevate the plate so as to simultaneously immerse the objects to a predetermined depth in the depression. A motor (not shown) rotates shaft 70 causing eccentric 68 to reciprocate shaft 40 and hence shaft 34 which in turn reciprocates plate 20 immersed in coating composition tank 2. This plate 20 is <PICT:0590259/III/1> provided with a plurality of depressions 22 each of a size to permit the reception therein of an object 24, and with a plurality of holes (not shown) for draining excess coating medium back to tank 2. The plate 20 is elevated to a height sufficient to simultaneously receive each object 24 in the depressions 22. Movement of shaft 34 also moves rack 102 and so shaft 96 and agitators 92 which stir the coating medium. The apparatus is particularly adapted for coating vitamin tablets with gelatin.
