Abstract

588,688. Batteries. STERN, W. March 3, 1945, No. 5357. [Class 53] The steel cases of accumulators of the nickeliron type having alkaline electrolytes are protected from corrosion by providing the cells with removable envelopes of insulating material such as rubber, artificial rubber, polyvinyl chloride or a mouldable synthetic substance. Fig. 1 shows two cells, 1, fitted with removable envelopes 2 which may be provided with projections 3 to separate adjacent cells. Projections 4 on opposite walls of the envelopes may be provided to rest on supporting members or in grooves in an enclosing frame or crate.
