[Class 40,(iii)] (Also in Group XIX] Apparatus for converting statistical code record into a telegraphic code record comprises means for sensing concurrently corresponding fields of detail and master cards, and a plurality of devices normally controlled selectively by the sensing of code designations on the detail cards ; means are controlled by the sensing of a code designation on a master card concurrently with the sensing of a particular code designation on a detail card, for selecting a device different from the device selected when the code designation on the detail card is sensed alone. The invention is described as a modification of theapparatus described in Specification 566,964. This apparatus is provided with a second sensing mechanism for a master card M.C., so that while successive fields of a detail card D.C. are being sensed by brushes 12 in co-operation with a roller 91, the master card is sensed concurrently by brushes 101 in co-operation with a roller 105. Perforations a in the detail card, which are required to cause the punching of the " TAB " designation in the telegraphic tape, are matched by corresponding perforations b in the master card, and when the two perforations are sensed concurrently the circuit is arranged to cause the punching of both the " TAB ". and " FIGURES " designations in the tape. When, however, a perforation c, in the same index point position on the detail card, is intended to exercise a different control (e.g. when it indicates the 11th month in the date column), nc corresponding perforation is present in the master card, and the sensing of the single perforation causes the puching of a " period ' designation in the tape (which, by convention, is understood to represent the 11th month).
