588,285. Indicating - tops or teetotums. INNES, C. J. BARTON-. June 29, 1945, No. 16644. [Class 132 (ii)] A top comprises a body portion 1 having a projection 2 on which the top can spin, a spindle 3 having a knurled head 4 by which the top can be spun, and a disclike member 5 loosely mounted on the spindle and having teeth-likeserrations 6 which engage with similar serrations 7 on the -top of the body. The upper surface of the body 1 bears a number of indications, such as numerals, letters &c. one of which is rendered visible through an aperture 8 when the top is at rest. When the top is spun, the sudden twist imparted thereto causes the serration 5 or teeth 6 on the disc 5 to disengage from the serrations 7 on the top of the body 1, leaving the disc 5 to spin for a time free of the body portion and at a different speed. The disc 5 may be provided with vanes or the like 11 to assist in retarding its speed. The number of teeth on the body and disc portions may be equal in number to the indications on the body and the indications may be a direction for moving a piece in a game. The upper surface of the body 1 may be provided with a number of spaced projections 9 around its periphery to receive a plate 10 having a castelated periphery so that the plate may be prevented, during spinning of the top, from movement with respect to the body portion. The same top may thus be utilized for playing different games. The top may be used as a toy or as a substitute for dice &c. in games, deciding order of play, or in raffles &c.
