Abstract
588,038. Electric follow-up systems. MILSOM, F. R., FURZEHILL LABORATORIES, Ltd., and SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S. Aug. 4, 1944, No. 14964. [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A system for controlling a motor 9 in accordance with amplitude and phase variations of an A.C. signal, in order, for example, to vary an impedance in an A.C. bridge circuit, comprises a modulator 3, e.g. a ring modulator, arranged to modulate the signal of signal frequency, applied at 1, with a reference voltage of signal frequency but of constant amplitude and fixed phase applied at 2, thereby producing a signal of zero frequency, i.e. D.C., which is applied at 6 to a second modulator 5 and there modulated with a reference A.C. voltage of motor frequency and fixed amplitude applied at 7 to produce a signal applied over line 8 to one phase winding 10 of the two-phase induction motor 9. The other phase winding 11 is supplied with oscillations in quadrature with the reference oscillations applied at 7. A signal component proportional to the differential or integral of the original signal may be introduced into the intermediate stage of zero frequency. Specification 568,554, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.
