587,500. Dolls. HIGGINS, G. S. Nov. 25, 1944, No. 23533. [Class 132 (iii)] [Also in Group XXV] In dolls or like toys of the type comprising an assembly of ball and socket joints, the balls being clamped between two flat plates, a suitably shaped wire forming an arm or like part is fixed to one ball. The body of the toy comprises a rectangular piece of wood or metal 1 having three upper and two lower holes or recesses. Five balls are held in these recesses by a plate 8 which is bolted to the rear plate 1 and may be formed of spring metal having cuts 10 so that each ball is sprung individually. A head is secured to the central upper ball and wire arms to the balls on either side. Each leg is formed of an upper wire or rod portion 14 secured to one of the lower balls and a pair of wood or metal straps 15 to which the upper portion is rigidly secured and between which is frictionally clamped a lower wire or rod 14a. This lower portion 14a of the leg is secured to a ball 19 which bears on the flat surface of a foot 18 and is held in position by a wire socket 20 which passes through an adjustable saddle piece 21 and under a clamping plate 23. One foot may be weighted or detachably secured to a platform and the arms, legs and body may carry filling pieces, e.g., discs, to support clothing.
