Abstract
586,842. Reed plates. MAGNUS, .F. H. Nov. 4, 1943, No. 18334. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1942. [Class 88 (ii)] The reed plate B of a musical instrument, particularly an instrument of the harmonica or accordion type, is moulded of a synthetic resinous material, for example polystyrene, and has a plurality of .reeds 4, 5, moulded integrally with and thinner than the reed plate, each reed being connected only at its heel end 5a to the reed plate and extending substantially along one side plane only of said plate. The reeds thus formed overlie or underlie, as the case may be, an associated slot 3 in the plate B. In the construction shown, the plate is formed integrally with a body section A of a harmonica, the combined unit having a plurality of recesses 2 constituting wind cells. A section C overlies the reed plate and forms a common sound chamber for all the reeds. In a modification, the parts A and B are made separately and are screwed together. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a construction in which ,the reed plate is of metal with the reeds, which are of polystyrene, riveted to it. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
