Abstract

Textile fibres of an organophilic fibre-forming organic substance have incorporated therein an organic contact insecticide and optionally also an insect-repellent such as dimethyl phthalate. The textile fibres may be of cellulose ester or ether, e.g. cellulose acetate, propionate, butyrate, acetate - propionate, or acetatebutyrate, or ethyl or benzyl cellulose. Insecticides specified are 1 : 1-di-(p-chlorophenyl)-2 : 2 : 2-trichlorethane, g -benzene hexachloride, derris or pyrethrum extracts, and rotenone. The insecticide may be incorporated in the spinning solution from which cellulose ester or ether fibres are spun. According to the Provisional Specification the insect repellent may be used alone and the textile fibres may be of polyamides or polyvinyl compounds, e.g. polymerized vinylidene chloride or co-polymerized vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate.
