Abstract
586,218. Skylights; ventilators. ROBERTS, J. A. Oct. 3, 1944, No. 18877. [Classes 20 (iii) and 137] An outwardly opening skylight or ventilator comprises a movable frame of concrete, plastic, or mouldable non-metallic material and a bearer frame of similar material upon the upper side face of which it is seated when closed, the movable frame being arranged to pivot about a definite fixed axis relatively to both frames, the pivot consisting of a part of the bearer frame or a part in fixed relation to it as contrasted with a hinge connection. The movable frame 1 of a skylight of precast concrete fits over a bearer frame, being seated thereon along two sides and the lower or opening end and fulcrummed at 3 upon the remaining end 4 which comprises a part of the ridge unit 9 of a glazed roof. The sides and lower end of the bearer frame constitute glazing bars 6, 7 connected at the ends by bolts 8. A lug 21 projects inwardly from the pivoted end member 13 of the skylight frame at each side and supports a locking plate 22 extending slightly under each of side bars 6 to prevent displacement of the frame if lifted bodily off the end wall 4. A notched latch at the opening end engaging a projection on bar 7 enables the skylight to be held closed or in several open positions.
