[Class 100 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] In the manufacture of covered electric wires by the longitudinal method of covering, strips of covering material of rubber or the like such as polyvinyl chloride compound or polythene are fed from containers in which they are folded in such a manner that both ends of each strip are readily accessible, one end passing over a friction tensioning device and guide members to the machine (see Group XXV) and the other end being joined to the leading end of the strip in an adjacent container so that successive strips can be fed continuously. The ends of the strips may be joined by electrical resistance heating and pressure or other means. In filling each container, the strip is fed between two revolving cages beneath which the container is reciprocated on rollers.
