Abstract
A herbicide comprises a dinitrophenol, e.g., 4 : 6-dinitro-o-cresol, dinitrohydroxybenzenes, and dinitronapthols, or a salt thereof and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal chlorate. An ammonium or sodium salt of the dinitrophenol may be employed. The composition may also contain a small proportion of a wetting or suspending agent such as sulphite lye or molasses. The preparations are preferably made as wet ground suspensions; but the dinitrophenol may be dry ground with a suspending or wetting agent, the chlorate being subsequently added in an open vessel. Precautions appropriate to the handling of explosives should be observed in the manufacture and transport of certain of the compositions.
