Abstract
585,603. Agricultural implements. SHIPTON, H. J. June 23, 1944, No. 11923. [Class 6 (i)] In a power-driven hoe or cultivator, the cultivating tools are carried on pivoted brackets mounted on a carrier bar which is movable transversely relative to the machine, each bracket being capable of independent vertical movement and means also being provided for raising all the tools in unison. In the form shown, the machine, comprising an anglesection main frame 1, 2, is provided forwardly with a yoke 4 for attachment to a tractor, and rearwardly with castors 30. A cross-member 7 mounted on rollers 6 may be moved transversely of the machine, carrying with it, on brackets 8, the carrier bar 9 for the cultivating tools. The tools such as tines 31 and discharrows 32 are mounted on brackets 12 which are adjustably spaced along the carrier bar by sleeves 10 provided with screws 11 for locking them in position. Each bracket 12 with its tools is free to rise independently if the tool encounters an obstruction. The penetration of the tools into the soil is controlled by a lever 18 operating on a cross-shaft 15 having arms 17 from the ends of which the tool-brackets 12 are suspended by chains 14. The tools may be raised or lowered in unison by the lever 18, or individual adjustments of depth may be made by altering the length of the chains. Adjacent to an operator's seat 26 is placed a wheel 25, by which the entire tool assembly may be traversed across the machine. The wheel 25 operates a column 24 and worm gear 23 similar to the steering mechanism of an automobile, and levers 22, 21, 20 and 19 transmit the motion to a short bar 33 fixed to the two cross-members 7 and 9, causing these members with their attached equipment to move laterally.
