Abstract
585,311. Mounting sheets, panels, slabs &c. MITCHELL, D. S. B., and MOSCATI, C. G. Feb. 19, 1945, No. 4145. [Class 20 (iv)] Sheets, panels, slabs and the like are mounted on inverted T-section beam strips by means of clips which are applied to the beam to clamp down on the edge of one sheet supported by one flange of the beam, means being provided to hold in abeyance the clamping action of the other half of the clip until a second sheet has been positioned in relation to the other flange of the beam strip, whereupon the full clamping action is brought into effect. The clip shown in Fig. 1 is formed with a U-shaped head portion 5 with inwardly inclined limbs 4, 4a whose recesses 7, 7a formed at different levels on the limbs engage the edges 6, 6a of the beam strip bulge 1 and cause the clip to lie at an angle with one foot portion 8 bearing down on the sheet 9 and the other foot portion 8a held above the second sheet 9a. When the sheet 9a is in position on the flange 3a of the strip the clip is forced down by hand so that the recess 7a comes out of engagement with the edge 6a and the foot portion 8a bears down upon the sheet 9a. The clamping action may be caused automatically by the positioning of the second sheet if the clip is formed as in Fig. 3 with an extension piece 11 against which the edge of the panel 9a bears and causes the recess 7a to disengage. This extension 11 and the foot 8a may be a single ply, double or looped portion. In a further modification the constructional means comprises a prop or strut of wire or metal, preferably of inverted L-section shaped to engage the ridge bulge on one side and temporrarily support the unclamped half of the clip on the other. One form of prop shown in Fig. 9 has two parallel base limbs 12a with hooked ends 12b which engage the ridge bulge and a back 12c which is supported on the flange 3a of the beam strip and has an abutment face 16 which supports the second half of the clip, until the prop is displaced by the positioning of the second sheet.
