Abstract

584,818. Switchgear structures. DAVIES, D. R., and METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Dec. 18, 1944, No. 25414. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXXV] A transformer with a resistance and/or a fuse in circuit is in a main casing having an opening through which the resistance and/or fuse on a mounting can be moved into an auxiliary chamber where they are electrically and physically isolated from the transformer and where the opening is substantially closed by the mounting. A transformer 1 is mounted in a casing 3 in which is a terminal 30 to which are connected a conductor 31 from associated switchgear and a conductor 32 connected to the controlled circuit. The transformer primary is connected at one end to terminal 28 and at the other through a resistance 16 mounted in clips 15 in a base 10b and a fuse (not shown) similarly mounted to the terminal 30. This circuit is made when two contacts such as 21 rest in engagement with two contacts 'such as 23. A spider 9 carries on rods 8 a hood 10a to which is attached the base 10. This structure may be moved upwards into the chain-dotted position, where base 10 is inside an auxiliary casing 4 and substantially blocks aperture 6 between the main and auxiliary casings. In this upper position contacts 21, 23 no longer engage and the resistance 16 and fuse are physically isolated from the transformer circuit. When the hinged lid 17 is opened the base 10 may be slid right out. Threads 11b, 11a on a rod 11 rotated by a head 12 engage in a boss 4b in the top of casing 4 to keep the movable structure in the lower and upper positions respectively. When the movable structure is in the upper position an interlocked cover 36 may be swung open to allow the passage of a testing bushing 35. In an alternative construction described, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the resistance and fuse mounting is moved upwards by movement of a pivoted handle which is mechanically interlocked with the inspection cover so that the latter can only be opened when the mounting is in the upper position.
