Abstract
583,532. Screw-and-nut gearing. DOUGLAS. J. G. May 30, 1944, No. 10355. [Class 80 (iii)] In screw-and-nut mechanism of the kind described in Specification 490,938 in which balls t are interposed between complementary helical grooving of a screw r and nut n and in which a short transfer passage m, formed in and extending through the wall of the nut, is provided between substantially the ends of one helix turn or convolution, the transfer passage is arranged to be at an angle less than 90 degrees to the direction of movement of the balls in the helical groove.. Deflectors s are provided in the grooving of the nut to form side walls of the transfer passage and the opening in the outer periphery of the nut is closed by a housing (not shown) surrounding the nut. More than a single helix turn or convolution may be utilized but each turn or convolution is provided with its own transfer passage.
