Abstract
582,928. Submersible toys. GLOVER, A. S. March 14, 1945, No. 6390. [Class 132 (iii)] A submersible toy comprises a body of waterproof flexible material having a head portion attached to one end of a control wire or rod which is fitted with a knob, finger grip or the like whereby the wire or rod can be oscillated about its axis, the attachment of the end of the wire or rod to the head portion of the body being such that oscillation of the wire or rod will turn or twist the head portion of the body. In the example given the flat body 4, which may be made of celluloid, sheet metal, or other flexible waterproof sheet material painted to represent a fish, is held under water by means of the control wire 5 bent at its lower end to form an L-shaped loop 6 bent over at 8 and passed through a hole 9 in the head 7. The body 4 possesses flexibility in the lengthwise direction so that when the knurled knob 10 is rotated to and fro about its axis the head of the fish will be caused to turn first in one direction and then in the other; at the same time the control wire 5 can be manipulated to move the fish body through the water, when it will simulate the motions of a fish. For convenience in packing the wire 5 may be pivoted in hole 9 to lie alongside the body 4, as indicated by the broken line 5a. The body 4 may be a closed hollow flexible body of rubber or other waterproof material.
