Abstract
582,730. Wet separating. SEELY, J. A. March 3, 1944, No. 3977. [Class 82 (ii)] A machine for washing and grading sand is provided with at least two lifters dipping into a tank and a perforated baffle between the lifters or baffles between successive lifters, the baffles grading the sand in the water flowing through the tank. The lifters may be of the kind described in Specification 379,005, the scoops of the first lifter having perforations of a larger size than the perforations in the next and so on. The sand is fed into a shoot or gutter 5 extending across the sloping side 3 of tank 1 and having a perforated bottom comprising sections 5a, 5b and 5c of progressively larger mesh. Rotary lifters 8, 9 provided respectively with perforated scoops 8a, 9a, the perforations in the scoop 8a being larger than those in the scoop 9a, are mounted on a shaft 7 mounted in bearings 10 and driven by gearing 13 from a motor 12 and a perforated baffle 14 is provided in the tank between the lifters and a similar baffle 15 between the lifter 9 and an overflow weir in the opposite side of the tank 3 to the shoot 5. The lifters deliver their sand on to shoots 16 and to assist in dewatering the sand; the lifters may be jolted or vibrated.
