582,048. Compound sheet materials. KREMER, A. March 31, 1944, No. 6055. [Class 140] A treatment for the edges of compound sheet material having a core and covering plies or sheets secured to the faces of the core, e.g., metalfaced plywood, consists in joining together by a thermal process such as welding peripheral portions of the covering plies overhanging the edges of the core, after interposition between them and the core of a heat-insulating material or device. An asbestos strip 10, Fig. 1, is located against the plywood cone 11 of a metal covered plywood sheet and the peripheral portions 12 of the metal facings 13 are brought together in contact with the strip 10 at 14 and welded together. Alternatively a strip of copper 15, Fig. 2, is supported upon the edge of the plywood core 11 by means of arms. 16 leaving an insulating air space 18 between the strip and the core, and the metal facings are brought into engagement with the strip 15 at 17 and welded together.
