Abstract

Laminated articles containing plies of glass and of methyl methacrylate polymers and copolymers are made by polymerizing between the plies a mixture containing 65-35 per cent of methyl methacrylate, 5-15 per cent of tetrallyl or tetramethallyl p silicate and 30-60 per cent of a plasticiser for polymethyl methacrylate, such as dibutyl and cyclohexyl phthalates, triethylene glycol dihexoate, or dibutyl sebacate. The polymerization may be effected by means of heat or actinic radiations and under pressure. A catalyst such as benzoyl peroxide may be used. The mixture may be partly polymerized to a syrup before pouring into a cell formed by the glass and polymethyl methacrylate layers. Copolymers of methyl methacrylate and styrene or vinyl acetate are specified.
