[Class 34 (ii)] [Also in Groups VIII, XVIII and XXIII] Apparatus for cleaning or washing articles, for example watch 'parts, dishes &c. clothes and metal or other articles, or for dry cleaning, comprises a container 1 with a cover 2 having fixed to it a sleeve. 3 to the lower end of which is secured a cover 4 adapted to hold attached to it by bayonet joint a cage 5, to the bottom of which is fixed a sleeve 9 secured also by strengthening ribs 10 soldered on. A collar 20 is secured to the sleeve 9 on which rests a removable disk 21 of wire mesh strengthened at the inner and outer edges by metal rims. The bottom of the cage 5 has apertures, covered with wire mesh and the cover 4 has apertures not so covered. In the sleeve 9 works a shaft 11 having at the lower end a disk cf four blades 12, and at the top an enlargement 13 with a square hole 14 to engage and be driven by the squared end of a shaft 15 located in the sleeve 3 by soldered collars 16 and having a prolongation 18 for engagement by a coiled spring flexible shaft 19 connecting it to a driving motor. A collar 22 fits snugly on the enlargement 13 and carries a pair of impeller blades 23 to stir the flowing liquid. A band of corrugated metal 24 is mounted in the container 1 to surround the cage. The articles being placed ir, the cage and liquid being filled in to a little distance above the cage, the motor is started and the blades 12 rotate to drive upwards and outwards the liquid which is then guided by the corrugations 24 without rotating to return over the cage and through the top, the downflow being rotated by the impeller 23. The corrugated surface 24 may be placed on the cage which may be rectangular in section instead of circular. For cleaning large and small parts, for example, of a watch, an inner cage may be placed on the shaft enlargement 13 instead of the impeller, consisting of a wire mesh container 25, Fig. 4, on an apertured sheet metal cover 26 having an attached central sleeve 29 with a narrower top 28 to fit over the enlargement 13 and a cover 30 of wire mesh with an inner rim 31 and outer flange 32. The inner cage rotates with shaft and causes rotation of the descending liquid. Specification 556,493, [Group VIII], is referred to. For drying the articles the liquid is removed and operation will cause a flow of air through the cage which air may be treated by an electric heater placed below the container.
