[Class 40 (v)] A glide path of the overlapping-field type comprises two antenna systems spaced apart in the direction of the glide path, the patterns of the two systems being so adjusted that the glide path becomes horizontal at a point in front of (as regards a landing craft) the forward antenna. The antennµ may be above ground, the forward one being off-set from the runway, the lobe of the forward antenna having a field decreasing with the glide angle and the lobe of the rear antenna may have a field increasing as the glide angle decreases. If both antennµ are flush with the ground level, the lobe of the rear antenna may decrease with decreasing glide angle, and the forward antenna may have a field increasing with decreasing glide angle. The antenna may consist of a slotted rectangular wave guide placed parallel with the runway, excited by an antenna at one end, or by a number of antennµ at different points along the guide so as to keep the power radiated from each slot equal. The slots may increase in size as their distances from the exciting antenna increase. Several guides may be placed end to end along the runway.
