579,929. Testing balance of rotary bodies. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Oct. 4, 1943, No. 16239. Convention date, Oct. 8, 1942. [Class 106 (ii)] A body 1 to be tested for dynamic balance is attached to a rotary shaft 2, the deflection of the shaft due to the lack of balance being measured by a micrometer screw 11 which, is adjusted until it contacts the rotating body, this condition being indicated by a telephone or galvanometer 13 connected in a circuit comprising the screw and the body. To determine the angular position of the deflection relative to a given position-on the shaft, the circuit is provided with a contact 15 angularly adjustable around the shaft and engaging a spherical surface 16 haying an insulated portion. With the screw 11 contacting the body 1, the contact 15 is adjusted to cut out the galvanometer reading. The contact 15 may be cut out of circuit by closing a switch 18. In a modification, Fig. 5, the end 11 of the micrometer screw is adapted to engage in turn the inside and outside of a hollow cylindrical test body. The latter may be mounted on mandrels or in a carrier fixed to the shaft 2.
