Abstract

579,835. Detergents. PENNSYLVANIA SALT MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 1, 1943, No. 20064. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1942. [Class 91] A detergent composition suitable for laundry purposes contains an alkaline silicate of sodium, an absorptive clay having colloidal properties, an alkali phosphate and a fatty-acid-containing oil, mixed in such a manner that chemical reactions between the alkaline compounds and the clay and the oil are substantially prevented. Reaction may be prevented by absorbing the oil in the clay before adding the alkaline ingredients or by cooling during mixing, and it is desirable to dry the clay before mixing. The clay may be bentonite and the oil may be tall oil or red oil, while suitable silicates of sodium are the orthosilicate, sesquisilicate and metasilicate, and suitable phosphates are the sodium orthophosphates, pyrophosphates and metaphosphate. In the examples the ingredients employed are bentonite, tall oil with or without red oil, sodium ortho-, meta- or sesqui-silicate and trisodium orthophosphate or tetrasodium pyrophosphate. In each of the examples the oil is absorbed in the clay before adding the alkaline ingredients and after all the ingredients have been added the mixture is cooled. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes the use of fatty acid ester oils such as palm oil in place of the fattyacid-containing oils. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
