Abstract
Vinylidene chloride polymers or interpolymers with vinyl chloride, vinyl esters of organic acids, esters, amides or nitriles of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid are treated with steam for 15-30 seconds, then mechanically worked, e.g. by extrusion, drawing, rolling or pressing, while in an atmosphere of steam. Steam at 100 DEG C. is preferred, though steam at over 100 DEG C. may be used. The polymeric material may be chilled and crystalline before treatment. Plasticisers such as chlorinated diphenyl, hexachlorodiphenyl ether and hexachlorobenzophenone may be added when the resin is at a temperature between the softening and decomposition points. Phenyl glycide ether may be added as a stabiliser. Threads or films may be made. Specification 532,697 is referred to.
